School, community groups and not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to participate in a guided tour through the public rooms of Government House.

Government House Open Day, Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Open Days

Open Days are held twice a year at Government House and are an opportunity for members of the public to explore the residence of the Governor of South Australia, tour through the gardens and meet the Governor.

The date of the next Open Day is Sunday, 8 October 2023. 

More information will be released in coming months. 

Entry is free and registrations are not required. 

School, community groups and not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to participate in a guided tour through the public rooms of Government House.

Visitors will learn about the Governor’s role and priorities and provide a unique insight into the constitutional, ceremonial and community engagement duties of the Governor.

A tour of Government House will be of particular interest to students, particularly those who are undertaking studies in civics and citizenship, as well as teachers of History, Society and Environment, Australian and International Politics and Legal Studies,

The free tours are led by volunteer guides and run for approximately one hour in length, with the opportunity to ask questions and answers throughout.

Volunteer guides are available to escort school groups of up to 30 people, while community groups are limited to 20 people per tour.

Group tours of up to 30 people are offered on Monday to Friday.

Requests should include the name or community group, the year level and number of students for school groups, and preferred tour dates.

Government House and grounds may be made available, at the Governor’s discretion, for eligible organisations within the community.

All requests to use Government House and gardens for an event are considered against the Governor’s priority areas, availability, existing programming and budgetary considerations.
