Tours

School and community groups are invited to take part in a guided tour of the public rooms of Government House.

Visitors will learn about the Governor’s role and priorities and gain insight into the Governor’s constitutional, ceremonial and community engagement responsibilities.

Tours are particularly valuable for students studying civics and citizenship, as well as subjects such as History, Society and Environment, Australian and International Politics, and Legal Studies.

Tours are free of charge, led by volunteer guides and run for approximately one hour. Visitors will also have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the tour.

Volunteer guides can accommodate school groups of up to 30 people and community groups of up to 25 people per tour.

Tours are offered Monday to Friday, subject to the availability of Government House and volunteer guides.

Requests should include the school or community group name, year level (for school groups), number of attendees and preferred tour dates.

Accessibility and visitor information

Tours involve walking and standing for extended periods, so sensible footwear is recommended.

All rooms included in the tour are accessible to wheelchair users and people using four-wheeled walkers.

Grounds

Government House is not available for private hire. However, community organisations may invite the Governor to host an event on their behalf or seek permission to hold their own event in the grounds.
