Role of the Governor

The Governor is the representative of His Majesty King Charles III, South Australia’s Head of State. The Governor carries out constitutional and official duties, represents South Australia and meets with people and communities across the state.

The Lieutenant Governor

Role of the Lieutenant Governor

The office of Lieutenant-Governor was created in 1838 to act as a deputy to the first Governor of South Australia, Captain John Hindmarsh.

The Lieutenant-Governor is appointed by the Governor on the advice of the Premier of South Australia.
