Lunch on the Lawns
Lunch on the Lawns is an initiative of Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, and Mr Rod Bunten.
Held on the first Friday of each month from noon to 2pm, the Governor and Mr Bunten open the gates of Government House for the event, providing local musicians and bands the opportunity to perform while visitors enjoy a diverse range of live music across different styles.
Since launching in 2022, more than 9,000 people have attended, with highlights including performances from school groups, military and jazz ensembles, and the State Opera.
The program has also featured giant lawn games hosted by the Girl Guides, and football activities run by the SANFL during Gather Round.
Lunch on the Lawns also marks and celebrates key occasions and international days. For International Day of People with Disability, the event has featured Novita’s DJ Georgia, along with refreshments provided by Shine Like Gold Mobile Café, supporting young Autistic people to gain real-life work experience.
On the same day, visitors can also enjoy complimentary guided tours of the Government House gardens, led by volunteer guides from the Friends of the Botanic Gardens, of which the Governor and Mr Bunten are Joint Patrons.
The tours run from 10.45am to 11.45am and offer an opportunity to explore the history, design and plantings of the gardens.
The program is delivered in partnership with patronage organisations and community groups, with a focus on creating a welcoming, inclusive event that encourages people to experience the grounds of Government House and connect with the broader community.
