Dinner to farewell Lieutenant Governor Professor Brenda Wilson
Welcome to Government House for this State Dinner to honour the service of our Lieutenant Governor, Professor Brenda Wilson AM.
I am very pleased this event has been able to go ahead, in a COVID safe manner.
I thank Government House staff for creating a lovely setting and atmosphere here on our eastern lawns!
This evening we honour the outstanding service of Professor Wilson as Lieutenant Governor of South Australia.
Professor Wilson came to the role with an impressive career as a leader in the fields of nursing, health management and academia and was the first female to serve as Lieutenant Governor.
Professor Wilson has an absolute passion for the pursuit of excellence in health in our state.
The skills and knowledge she brought to her position, commencing in 2014, have enabled her to undertake her appointment with distinction.
Professor Wilson has made the most of the opportunities it affords and the responsibilities it entails.
She has continued to support our health sector by attending, and speaking at, a large number of related events.
As Governor’s Deputy, she has engaged with sectors right across our community, from Queen’s birthday events, to memorial services, to local service club meetings and the opening of art exhibitions.
She has hosted diplomats and dignitaries at Government House, as well as several receptions for community organisations.
And she has also presided over Executive Council, one of the most important of vice-regal duties, more than 20 times, including recently as a result of my need to quarantine.
Although I have known you, Professor Wilson, for only a short time, I am impressed by your commitment, diligence, friendly manner and sense of humour.
I know that Government House staff have enjoyed the ease and efficiency of working with you as well.
Professor Wilson, you have made an outstanding contribution to our state in your professional career, in your term as Lieutenant Governor, and will continue to do so in your many Board positions, patronages and other roles.
Congratulations on the completion of your term and I wish you all the very best for the future.
Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC
Governor of South Australia
