Fullarton Scouts Centenary Celebration
Rod and I are pleased to join you for the Fullarton Scout Group’s Centenary Celebration.
One of the privileges of being Governor is also being Chief Scout, and it’s my pleasure to be here on such a significant occasion in the history of your group.
My father grew up in Fullarton, and I always enjoy returning to this local community.
I’ve always held a deep sense of appreciation for what Scouting provides to young people.
As a child, I had a small taste of what’s on offer through my involvement in Brownies, as part of Girl Guides.
I still remember how to do slip knots, and these skills have proven very useful over the years!
Since its establishment, Fullarton Scouts have educated more than 5,000 young people – and I imagine many of them remember too.
That’s the power of Scouting – they equip children and young adults with skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Scouting is, at its heart, a community endeavour.
It happens at a local level, through the dedication of those who believe that investing in young people is among the most important things we can do.
I thank all the volunteers here today – including leaders, committee members, and other helpers - who are among more than 500 people who have donated their time and energy to the Fullarton Scouts since its inception.
Without your dedication, there would be no centenary to celebrate.
I also thank the parents and families who have supported their children to be part of Scouts. Your encouragement makes all the difference.
Finally, to all the Scouts here today: what you are doing matters.
Every skill you learn, every challenge you take on, every friendship you forge here is building your character in ways that will help you in multiple areas of your life, for many years to come.
Enjoy your scouting, and make the most of the opportunities it gives you. Do the things that take you out of your comfort zone – that is where you’ll really grow as a person.
And as you get older, I hope you’ll consider a leadership role, and give back to the community that has supported you.
Happy centenary to the Fullarton Scouts. Here’s to the next one hundred years of fun, friendship, and unforgettable adv
