Reception to mark the 100 Year Anniversary of Jones Radiology
I am delighted to welcome you to Government House to mark the 100-year anniversary of Jones Radiology.
A century of innovation, a century of contribution to health care and a century of community service are well worth celebrating.
It’s often said that the Adelaide community abounds with family connections and that holds true this evening.
Dr Geoffrey Jones whose surname name the practice now carries, married my late mother, Jennifer Cashmore’s eldest sister, Helen.
So, alongside our celebration of a centenary of health care, it also feels a little like a family occasion to me.
As Governor, alongside my husband Rod, I have been privileged to travel the State and visit what we regard as iconic South Australian companies.
It has been eye-opening to witness the breakthroughs, research and innovation that is being undertaken particularly in medical technologies, particularly in the Biotech and medical precinct not far from here, on North Terrace.
And although I haven’t made an official visit to Jones Radiology, like many South Australians, I have certainly made the occasional personal visit. I think the practice, owned and operated by doctors, merits the “icon” description, as a well-known and well-regarded name in the community and through playing a significant role in supporting the health and wellbeing of South Australians.
While I will leave much of the detail about Jones Radiology’s history to Dr Raeside, I will mention a few significant “firsts” since 1925.
Notably:
- The first practice to have a female partner radiologist
- The first private practice to install MRI
- The first dedicated breast imaging clinic
- And most recently the state’s first Photon Counting CT.
Friends.
At the heart of any medical practice is the relationships built and sustained with clients and allied partners.
The number of specialists and referrers here today speaks well of the long-standing partnerships Jones Radiology has developed.
Alongside that, the longevity of a company is of necessity built on the vision of the successive boards and the dedication, caring and expertise of staff.
I thank all those who have grown Jones Radiology from the original single clinic founded by Dr Harold (John) McCoy to the 29 clinics across metropolitan and regional South Australia we see today.
And as you look to the future, I congratulate you on your commitment to expanding regional access to advanced imaging because access to any service shouldn’t be predicated on your postcode.
I congratulate Jones Radiology on reaching this significant milestone and wish you well for the future as you continue to serve the health of the community.
